As World of Warcraft Classic first began to launch in 2019 players completed the WOTLK Classic Gold game's initial raid on the first day. This set the pace for the rest of the game going forward. Players with years of experience and a min-maxing attitude have mastered nearly every challenge the original Version of Blizzard's MMORPG could face.
Blizzard is looking to change this in World of Warcraft Classic's upcoming Season of Mastery, which is all about bringing an extra level of challenge to Azeroth as well as fresh servers, a more rapid timeline for the rollout of content, as well as more difficult raid encounters. Unfortunately, Blizzard is going to need to make bosses more difficult in order to create any sort of threat to the most committed players.
A recent beta test of Season of Mastery let players go toe-to-toe with enhanced versions of bosses from the first two bosses: Molten Core or Onyxia's Lair. Despite the fact that all bosses received a flat 100% health boost, as well as a number of bosses receiving added mechanics that were eliminated from the game's first version the players were still able to make short progress against their opponents. It wasn't a surprise since Blizzard posting in an official forum post that the team were concerned that the effects of changes could "likely not be meaningfully felt" by long-time players of the game.
"As we looked at Beta testers in-game and observed their reactions to our changes and restorations that confirmed what we had already believed prior to this test--merely raising mob health and fixing a couple of removed mechanics was not hitting the mark we wanted for a season with a focus on faster progress and buy WOW WOTLK Classic Gold "more challenging" material," Blizzard writes.
